During the 2018–2019 cycle, that metric fell to 63.8% before the crypto winter set in. “The current picture is different,” he wrote.&nbsp;According to him, the market is experiencing severe internal compression in profitability, but it is still far from a true structural reset. “As long as the long-term average holds near 87.5%, this is better described as a prolonged cyclical correction with elevated two-way volatility, rather than a full bearish-phase reset,” Adler wrote.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Short Covering Supports Bitcoin Price, Not Fresh Demand</h2>JDK Analysis also suggested that Bitcoin may be showing a false show of strength. It noted that spot markets are seeing active selling, while futures data showed aggressive buying largely driven by short covering rather than new long positions, which has helped keep prices supported near current levels.&nbsp;In a&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/The_JDK99/status/2039250945788325909?s=20">post</a> on X, JDK said that as short positions unwind, the temporary bid supporting prices could fade, leaving the market exposed to continued selling pressure. Researchers matched transactions ranging between $2,200 and $3,500 with the listed prices of drones and related components,<h2 class="st-heading-2">Intermediaries Add Layers To Procurement Chains</h2>Besides Russia, the report pointed to Iran-linked networks using crypto in procurement and payment flows, reflecting a broader shift among sanctioned actors toward alternative financial rails for cross-border transactions.Chainalysis also highlighted indirect channels. Electronics and dual-use component vendors selling through third-party platforms such as Alibaba, a Chinese e-commerce platform, accepted crypto payments, allowing buyers to buy drone parts while hiding their identities. These transactions often moved through over-the-counter brokers and exchanges, adding layers of complexity while still leaving an on-chain footprint. But blockchain data has made this transparent.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Stablecoins Gain Traction In Real-World Payments</h2>The report also highlighted the growing role of stablecoins in such transactions, reflecting their utility for pricing and settling real-world purchases. Higher interest rates might lower demand, but they cannot resolve supply disruptions such as energy constraints or semiconductor shortages. The U.S. economy is much more leveraged now, making prolonged monetary tightening harder to sustain, he added.<h2 class="st-heading-2">$39 Trillion Debt Limits The Fed’s Room To Maneuver</h2>According to Visser, debt is the main structural problem. U.S. federal debt has risen to around $39 trillion, significantly higher as a share of GDP than during the 1970s inflation era. He thinks that the burden extends beyond government finances to asset markets as well, since high stock market valuations make it even harder to fight inflation without causing significant damage.Additionally, he said the labor backdrop is weaker than in previous inflation cycles, with slower hiring and softer wage growth replacing the earlier risk of an overheated job market.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Making The Case For Bitcoin</h2>Visser said Bitcoin is becoming more important as the financial system grows more dependent on government intervention and liquidity support during crises. He said Bitcoin was created in response to the 2008 financial crisis and is meant to be used when people lose faith in traditional monetary policy. He says that Bitcoin doesn't need hyperinflation to prove its worth.&nbsp;Instead, Visser said Bitcoin could benefit in environments where markets expect policy easing and seek to avoid economic downturns.
