$TLT The Treasury sold $39 billion of 10-year notes in an auction on Wednesday. According to BMO, the sale was “strong”, with higher than average bidding from non-dealers. Indirect bidders, which include global central banks, took 80.3% of the auction — above a 10-auction average of 72.4%. Direct bidders, scooped up 17.1% of the sale, just below an average of 18.3%. Dealers, meanwhile, bought just 2.5% of the notes offered, well below a 9.4% mean. “The 24-year highs in rates brought out the buyers and resulted in a great auction,” said Peter Boockvar, market strategist and author of The Boock Report.

Calling a bottom in the nonstop U.S. Treasury bond sell-off might seem crazy, but a handful of options traders look increasingly willing to do it. Trading in the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) Wednesday was very call-heavy on volume that was 50% above the 30-day average, according to data compiled from Cboe LiveVol and SpotGamma. Traders bought almost 370,000 calls versus under 100,000 puts in TLT, and sold more puts than they bought. Nine of the top 10 traded contracts in the ETF were calls, and while there was some call-selling, volume and premium was on the side of bulls, suggesting traders think the risk-reward of betting on higher yields isn’t great. A rally in the TLT would mean a decline in rates. $TLT

$TLT inflation is a complicated problem, Washington says it is 3%. I just bought a mattress from Ikea for 302 bucks yesterday. I purchased the same mattress 4 years ago and it was $120 with tax. So maybe the inflation is really 3% plus the Trump factor, which is all these additional costs and tariffs. Remember what he said. Tariffs won't push inflation. They are holding the line there at FOMC. It is still 3% give or take a point. So what difference does the interest rate makes, when the price changes 150% over 4 years? Are they going to raise 0.05% ? Or 0.2%? You think it makes a dent on that plan for the prices to come down a bit? It makes no difference. Better plan is to kick that guy out far away from Washington so he cannot go back. Remove the tariffs. It will be a miracle. Prices will come down. Its a better plan than to raise rates.
