Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The press conference is always the wild card,” he said.The firm also said in its note that dissents will be another aspect to watch out for following the conclusion of the FOMC’s meeting on Wednesday. “Some Fed policymakers have made it clear they want rates lowered faster, but they're unlikely to have their way today,” stated SCFR.Analysts at ING Think echoed similar sentiments in their latest note ahead of the Fed meeting.“The main focus will therefore be on possible dissent and communication, also around the issue of the Fed’s independence. The dollar’s doing great,” the president said in response to a question about whether he was worried about a decline in the currency.“I want it to be — just seek its own level, which is the fair thing to do,” Trump said, according to Bloomberg.Meanwhile, the premier currency has been trending lower on the impact of trade tariffs and uncertainty around Trump’s policies.<h2 class="st-heading-2">U.S. Dollar Levels</h2>The <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DXY">U.S. Dollar Index</a> (DXY), which tracks the dollar’s value against a basket of foreign currencies, has been at its lowest level since February 2022, as per data from Koyfin.&nbsp;<figure class="image"><img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/koyfin_20260128_035531191_png_c909df9e83.webp" alt="DXY drops to lowest level since Feb. 2022" width="2400" height="1240"><figcaption>DXY 5-Year Levels | Source: Koyfin</figcaption></figure>&nbsp;At the time of writing, DXY was down 1.29%, trading around 95.79 levels.According to the Bloomberg report, which cited market observers, the dollar’s weakness comes from risks around Trump’s pressure on the Federal Reserve, concerns over the country’s fiscal outlook and its growing debt load, political polarization, and Trump’s unpredictable policymaking, including threats to take over Greenland.The sudden resurgence of the Japanese yen since last week may have also contributed to the weakness, the report noted.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Trump’s Dollar Control</h2>Trump reportedly implied that he could influence the direction of the U.S. dollar, saying he could make it “go up or go down like a yo-yo,” though he framed such volatility as undesirable.The president compared currency manipulation to artificially inflating employment figures and criticized Asian economies for deliberately weakening their currencies.Pointing to China and Japan, Trump said he frequently clashed with their leaders over what he described as repeated efforts to devalue the yen and the yuan, arguing that such moves made it difficult for U.S. companies to compete.“If you look at China and Japan, I used to fight like hell with them, because they always wanted to devalue their yen. In December, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/us-gdp-q3-december-2025/cLep8gzREuU">U.S. economy grew</a> at an annualized rate of 4.3% in the third quarter (Q3), higher than the Dow Jones forecast of 3.2%, as&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.marketwatch.com/economy-politics/calendar">cited</a> by MarketWatch.The BEA stated that the acceleration in real GDP in Q3 compared to the second quarter (Q2) reflected a smaller decrease in investment, an acceleration in consumer spending, and an upturn in exports and government spending.The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/us-jobs-employment-report-december-2025/cmU2hD6R4dW">December jobs report</a> from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) showed the unemployment rate inching lower to 4.4%, down from a revised 4.5% in November.The Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, came in at&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/us-pce-index-november-2025/cmUCRChR4X3">2.8% in November</a> on an annualized basis, in line with expectations.<h2 class="st-heading-2">What Do Experts Think?</h2>Experts believe the Fed will keep interest rates steady this week, with Goldman Sachs Chief U.S. Economist David Mericle&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/goldman-sachs-expects-no-midweek-surprises-from-feds-powell/cmy7ixAR4Wp">penciling</a> two rate cuts this year.However, analysts at ING Think noted that there could be dissent at this week's FOMC meeting from Fed Governors Stephen Miran and Chris Waller.“Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s robust defense of the central bank’s independence on 11 January, in response to ongoing pressure from the President to lower rates, confirms it,” the firm stated in a recent note.ING Think analysts also expect two rate cuts this year, while noting that current monetary policy remains “slightly restrictive.”Collin Martin, head of fixed income research and strategy at the Schwab Center for Financial Research, pointed to the U.S. economy’s resilience, sticky inflation, and&nbsp;a lower unemployment rate as reasons for his expectation that rates will remain unchanged.“Since the Fed last met, the unemployment rate has improved and economic data suggests the economic momentum has continued.
