The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite led the climb, adding nearly 400 points to end 1.54% higher. While the company’s results beat both top- and bottom-line expectations, and the chipmaker also issued strong forward guidance, markets were not impressed with the company’s plans on China. Nvidia shares slipped about 1% in extended trading hours.</p><p>Shortly after the results, Elon Musk’s rocket and satellite company SpaceX filed its much-awaited S-1 registration <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/spacex-ipo-takes-off-firm-highlights-starlink-1.2-billion-q1-profit-10.3-million-subscribers/cZXxBC0Ren8">statement</a> with the SEC. While the preliminary statement did not provide a specific timeline for the public debut or other details about the IPO, it revealed a dual-class share structure designed to preserve Musk’s control. It also provided a glimpse into the company’s financials, revealing revenue of $18.674 billion for 2025 and $4.694 billion for the first quarter of 2026.</p><p>Earlier in the day, stock markets closed higher as oil prices declined and Treasury yields cooled off amid suggestions from President Donald Trump that a resolution with Iran was coming soon.</p><p>Meanwhile, minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) April meeting <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/majority-of-fed-officials-are-flagging-rate-hike-possibilities-fed-minutes-show/cZXx4B1RenV">indicated</a> rate hike possibilities amid rising inflation. “A majority of participants highlighted, however, that some policy firming would likely become appropriate if inflation were to continue to run persistently above 2 percent,” it said.</p><p>“The market is coming off a really strong earnings season that delivered positive revisions to earnings expectations, but concerns around inflation and demand destruction in the economy are proving persistent,” Scott Helfstein, head of investment strategy at Global X ETFs, reportedly <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2026/05/20/stock-market-today-live-updates.html">told</a> CNBC.</p><p>On Thursday, markets will be watching for Walmart's earnings results. Shares of the company jumped over 1.3% overnight.</p><p><strong>Applied Digital Corporation (APLD): </strong>Shares of the Dallas-based company closed up nearly 8% and continued to climb overnight after it announced a significant milestone and also revealed a new hyperscaler <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/apld-stock-rallies-after-hours-on-massive-7.5-billion-hyperscaler-lease/cZXxQg3RenY">deal</a> worth about $7.5 billion.</p><p><strong>Nvidia Corp. (NVDA): </strong>The chip manufacturer jumped onto the retail radar amid its <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/nvda-stock-slips-after-hours-expectation-beating-q1-share-buybacks-and-dividends-do-little-to-shake-zero-china-revenue-assumptions/cZXxOZhReno">earnings results</a>. The company provided a strong forward guidance of $91 billion in revenue for the upcoming quarter. However, the company said that it did not assume any data center compute revenue from China in its outlook.</p><p><strong>Rocket Lab USA Inc. (RKLB): </strong>The company’s shares were down about 6% in extended trading hours after it <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/rklb-stock-massive-3b-offering-future-acquisitions/cZXzVe5Renr">announced</a> a $3 billion stock offering that raised dilution concerns.</p><p><strong>Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (BABA): </strong>The Chinese e-commerce giant was on the retail radar after it <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/baba-stock-slips-premarket-alibaba-unveils-ai-chips-3x-more-powerful-amid-nvidia-s-china-export-battle/cZXDpaUReVI">revealed</a> the new Zhenwu M890 chip to rival offerings from Nvidia.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Broader Market Trends</h2><p>Oil futures were trading higher in the overnight session heading into Thursday. Brent crude futures expiring in July were up about 0.82%, trading at around $105.88 a barrel, while WTI crude futures expiring in June were trading around $99.15 a barrel at the time of writing.</p><p>Gold prices slipped to around $4,535.57 an ounce.</p><p>Asian markets were all trading higher at the open on Thursday, with the KOSPI, Nikkei 225, and the SSE Composite index climbing up at the time of writing. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite led the decline, shedding 220 points to end 0.84% lower. However, the lack of a diplomatic breakthrough on the peace deal with Iran has kept oil prices above $100 a barrel, even as the critical Strait of Hormuz has remained effectively closed to commercial ships for more than 80 days.</p><p>Amid rising inflation concerns, Treasury yields are <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/treasury-yields-back-near-2007-highs-analysts-warn-bond-selloff-not-done-yet/cZXuiaiReZB">climbing</a> to record levels. Yields on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes rose for a third straight day, hitting 4.675%, the highest since Jan. 2025. Meanwhile, the 30-year Treasury yield has breached 2007 levels, trading around 5.20% at the time of writing.</p><p>Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at Spartan Capital Securities in New York, <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/global-markets-global-markets-2026-05-19/">told</a> Reuters that investors are closely watching rising yields. "We're seeing the long ​end of the market continue to rise. That is the reason why we're seeing (stocks) on the defensive," he reportedly said.</p><p>Meanwhile, technology stocks have been declining, reversing the upward trend from earlier this month. A majority of major memory chip stocks fell, as did most of the “Magnificent Seven” stocks, except Apple Inc. (AAPL), which closed up about 0.4%.</p><p>Markets will be tuned into Nvidia’s highly anticipated quarterly results expected after markets close on Wednesday. On the economic front, markets will watch out for the minutes of the May Federal Open Market Committee meeting for cues on the U.S. economy’s health and inflation.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Trending Stocks To Watch</h2><p><strong>ImmunityBio Inc. (IBRX): </strong>The immunotherapy company’s shares <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/ibrx-stock-jumps-fda-review-win-anktiva-bladder-cancer/cZXD0EyReNw">climbed about 3%</a> post-markets hours after it scored a key FDA win, after the federal agency accepted for review its expansion of the use of its Anktiva plus standard BCG into a broader group of bladder cancer patients.</p><p><strong>SELLAS Life Sciences Group Inc. (SLS): </strong>The clinical-stage biopharma company’s shares <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/sls-stock-rallies-after-hours-as-ceo-teases-leukemia-study-data-any-day-now/cZXDgj8ReNt">jumped more than 8.5%</a> in after-hours trading after the company’s CEO made positive comments on the data readout for its trial of galinpepimut-S (GPS) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML).</p><p><strong>Nvidia Corp. (NVDA): </strong>The chip manufacturer is on the retail radar ahead of its quarterly results. Markets will be watching the results as a primary scoreboard to provide cues on the global artificial intelligence sector.</p><p><strong>Chewy Inc. (CHWY): </strong>The pet company’s shares recovered marginally in extended trading hours after a steep decline on Tuesday. The company’s CEO <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/chwy-stock-drops-as-ceo-flags-risks-around-consumer-spending/cZXDgPRReNr">said</a> U.S. customers are feeling “stretched” on discretionary expenses amid rising inflation concerns, but also flagged the “emotive nature” of the pet industry.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Broader Market Trends</h2><p>Oil futures were lower in the overnight session heading into Wednesday as President Donald Trump said earlier in the week that he would “hold off” on a planned military attack on Iran.</p><p>Brent crude futures expiring in July were down about 0.8%, trading at around $110.40 a barrel, while WTI crude futures expiring in June were 0.71% lower, at $103.41 a barrel at the time of writing. This is the first instance of the odds of a rate hike being higher than the odds of rates being unchanged.</p><p>McCormick’s comments come amid a surge in 30-year U.S. Treasury yields, which rose by four basis points to 5.19%, the highest level since July 2007. Gibley added that this could be either from the potential second order impacts from higher energy prices or hotter economic growth.</p><p>“There appears to have been hope that the Xi-Trump meeting would result in a diplomatic breakthrough to shorten the conflict in Iran. The longer the Strait of Hormuz is closed, inflation risks are rising and waking up bond yields,” she said.</p><p>Gibley added that rising bond yields hurts the outlook for equities.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Annual CPI Highest Since 2023</h2><p>Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/us-consumer-inflation-april-2026-cpi-report/cZXXfE8Rei2">last week</a> showed that on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.6% in April after rising 0.9% in March.</p><p>The increase pushed the annual inflation rate to 3.8% before seasonal adjustments, marking the highest level since May 2023 amid rising energy prices.</p><p>Higher energy costs were the primary driver of the jump in headline inflation, with the energy index rising 3.8% in April and accounting for more than 40% of the monthly increase in consumer prices.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Crude Oil Prices Remain Above $100 A Barrel</h2><p>Meanwhile, crude oil prices continued to hover above $100 a barrel amid the ongoing Iran conflict. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures expiring in June fell about 1% to hover around $103 a barrel. Brent crude futures expiring in July were down 1%, at $110 a barrel.</p><p>The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/USO">United States Oil Fund ETF</a> (USO) was up about 1% at the time of writing, while the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/UCO">ProShares Ultra Bloomberg Crude Oil ETF</a> (UCO) rose more than 2%.</p><p>Meanwhile, U.S. equities declined in Tuesday’s opening trade. Citi Sees Markets Underpricing Risk Of Fed Rate Hike In 2026 — Analyst Says 'Inflation May Be Here To Stay'

Citigroup’s Head of Macro Strategist Jim McCormick on Tuesday said that the focus of bond traders will likely move to 5.5% as the new “round number” for 30-year U.S. Treasury yields amid rising inflation concerns.

According to a Bloomberg report, Citigroup’s Jim McCormick highlighted that core inflation is showing no signs of slowing, even as the U.S. economy has shown resilience when compared to its developed-market peers.

The 20-year Treasury yield also climbed to roughly 5.145%, underscoring mounting pressure across the long end of the bond market.</p><p>"The question going forward is: will guys really buy here because I believe this (selloff) will continue to persist," said Padhraic Garvey, head of global rates and debt strategy at ING, as per a Reuters <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.investing.com/news/economy-news/analysisinvestors-see-no-letup-in-bond-market-strain-4697446">report</a>.</p><p>“We’re probably headed to 4.75% in the next round,” Garvey added, warning that even a modest rise in long-term inflation expectations could drive yields another 10 to 30 basis points higher “very easily.” The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rose to around 4.62% late Monday.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Analysts Expect Further Pressure</h2><p>Wall Street analysts have cited recent hotter-than-expected inflation readings amid the Iran war, rising oil prices, and massive fiscal deficits for the ongoing pressure in the bond market. Economist Steve Hanke noted these factors for higher yields across the world in a post on X, adding that “bond vigilantes are riding again.”</p><p>Other market veterans are also warning that traditional buyers of U.S. debt are no longer providing the same stabilizing force. As per a Bloomberg <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-05-19/us-yields-flirting-with-2007-highs-entice-and-divide-investors">report</a>, Peters noted, “The global bond market is in disarray as investors are losing confidence.”</p><p>Veteran investor Peter Schiff has also <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/PeterSchiff/status/2056181668457713691">warned</a> that traders may still be underestimating how high both oil prices and bond yields could climb.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Rate Hike Expectations</h2><p>Amid rising bond yields and growing inflationary pressures, some market participants are expecting the Federal Reserve to move toward a rate hike rather than a rate cut.</p><p>Ed Yardeni, President of Yardeni Research, reportedly <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/ed-yardeni-warns-bond-vigilantes-may-force-fed-into-july-rate-hike/cZXu7jQRemU">said</a> he believes the Fed is “likely” to raise key borrowing rates by a quarter of a percentage point as soon as July. Market commentary service The Kobeissi Letter also said that interest rate futures are increasingly signaling that the Fed’s next policy move could be a rate increase rather than a cut. The firm added that markets see the odds of the Fed lowering interest rates before July 2027 to be minimal.</p><p>Meanwhile, U.S. equities were down in Monday’s overnight trading. We’d argue that it’s the Bond Vigilantes,” Yardeni wrote on Monday, according to a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2026/05/18/the-fed-will-have-to-raise-interest-rates-in-july-to-appease-bond-vigilantes-yardeni-says.html">report</a> from CNBC.</p><p>When it comes to the sentiment of policymakers, Yardeni said, “Warsh is going to be the odd man out. But he is the new Fed chair, and the bond market is reacting badly to his dovish stance.”</p><p>The comments come amid surging Treasury yields in the U.S. and across the world as inflation pressures mount due to the ongoing war between the U.S. and Iran. Last week, the 30-year Treasury yield closed at 5.12%, the highest in nearly 19 years. Meanwhile, Treasury yields on the benchmark 10-year bonds was at 4.595% and on 20-year Treasury was at 5.145% at the time of writing, nearing 2007-levels.</p><p>Economist Steve Hanke noted that rising oil prices driven by the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, coupled with massive fiscal deficits, have been sending yields higher across the world, adding that “bond vigilantes are riding again,” in a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/steve_hanke/status/2056125039884349577">post</a> on X.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Iran War Stokes Inflation Concerns</h2><p>U.S. inflation rose to 3.8% in April, the highest level since May 2023, and markets expect it to rise further. The Kobeissi Letter said in a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/KobeissiLetter/status/2056387956907126958?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet">post</a> on X that the U.S. consumer price index inflation is on track to exceed +5.0% as early as this year.</p><p>“Over the last 6 months, CPI inflation has averaged +0.4% on a MoM basis, with March and April readings as high as +0.9% and +0.6%, respectively. If this trend continues, this puts YoY inflation on pace to surge to +5.2% by the November midterms,” the market commentator said on Monday.</p><p>The Kobeissi Letter noted that it would lead to the highest level since Feb. 2023 and more than double the levels of Feb. 2026. A slowdown in inflation rise to about +0.3% would still result in the inflation rate increasing year-over-year at more than 4.4%, the highest since April 2023. “Inflation is back in full swing,” it said.</p><p>Economist Steve Hanke echoed the sentiment, saying that the U.S. inflation “genie is out of the bottle” in a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/steve_hanke/status/2056508378872983618">post</a> on X. &nbsp;</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Fed Rate Hike: Market Stance</h2><p>While President Donald Trump nominee Warsh has said that the Fed could afford to lower key interest rates, the odds for a rate hike have been rising, with more market participants betting on it.</p><p>Data from the CME FedWatch <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a> indicates nearly a 45% probability that the Fed will hike interest rates by the end of the year. While the probability of a hike by July is at about 5.5%, this has risen from 0.9% a month ago.</p><p>“Interest rate futures now see a BASE CASE of the next Fed move being a rate HIKE. In fact, the odds of the Fed cutting interest rates before July 2027 are a mere 1%,” The Kobeissi Letter said in a post last week. &nbsp;</p><p>“As inflation hits its highest level since 2023, the Fed is left with no option,” it added.</p><p>Meanwhile, U.S. equities were down in Monday’s overnight trading. The <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/spy">SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF (SPY)</a>, which tracks the benchmark S&amp;P 500 index, was down 0.10% at the time of writing, while the <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/qqq">Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ)</a>, which mirrors the Nasdaq 100, fell 0.22%. Ed Yardeni Warns Bond Vigilantes May Force Fed Into July Rate Hike As Yields Near 2007 Highs

The President of Yardeni Research has reportedly said that he believes the Fed is likely to increase key borrowing rates by a quarter of a percentage point as soon as July. 

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Dow Jones futures, S&amp;P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures all declined in the overnight session heading into Monday.</li><li>Oil futures climbed higher in the overnight session, with Brent crude futures expiring in July up about 2.21%, and WTI crude futures expiring in June up 2.83% at the time of writing.</li><li>Asian markets were also trading lower at the open on Monday.</li></ul><p>U.S. stock futures slipped in the overnight trading session on Sunday after President Donald Trump said that time is running out for Iran, reigniting fears of renewed tension in the Middle East and continued disruptions to global oil supplies.</p><p>Oil prices jumped following the social media post from the President.</p><p>However, Dow Jones futures were 0.79% lower, the S&amp;P 500 futures were down 0.70% and Nasdaq 100 futures declined 0.93% as of 9.30 p.m ET. &nbsp;</p><p>Among ETFs tracking benchmark indexes, the <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SPY">SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF (SPY)</a>, <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/QQQ">Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ)</a>, and the <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DIA">SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust (DIA)</a> were all edging lower at the time of writing. Investors were hoping for a significant breakthrough after the visit.</p><p>Meanwhile, Iran’s Defense Ministry spokesman has reportedly said that the country’s armed forces are “fully prepared to confront any new potential attack by the U.S. and the Israeli regime against the country.”</p><p>The conflict between the U.S. and Iran have stayed high, despite a ceasefire announced in early April. The U.S. has continued to blockade Iranian ports, even as the critical Strait of Hormuz has stayed shut since the conflict began.</p><p>Apart from this, markets will be watching quarterly results from large corporations, including Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) and other major American retailers.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Trending Stocks To Watch</h2><p><strong>ServiceNow Inc. (NOW):</strong> Shares of the software company were up more than 4% in Sunday’s overnight session after President Trump disclosed a significant position in the firm. ServiceNow also completed a $4 billion debt raise.</p><p><strong>ImmunityBio Inc. (IBRX): </strong>The immunotherapy company climbed about 1% after it <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/ibrx-stock-fda-workshop-japan-bcg-deal/cZXrReERelI">announced</a> an exclusive U.S. deal with Japan to develop, import, and commercialize intravesical Tokyo-172 strain of BCG.</p><p><strong>Ondas Inc. (ONDS): </strong>The unmanned systems and private wireless solutions company was on the retail radar amid its beat-and-raise first-quarter <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/onds-stock-soars-after-beat-and-raise-q1-ondas-sees-front-loading-of-expenses-as-necessary-to-support-growth/cZX1rTwRe1H">results</a>. Chairman of the company, Tom Lee, <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/cryptocurrency/tom-lee-crypto-boomer-moment-cycle-top/cZXVCEvRek1">said</a> on Friday that the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies reflects a structural shift toward blockchain-powered finance, and was not a "boomer moment."</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Broader Market Trends</h2><p>Oil futures climbed higher in the overnight session heading into Monday. Brent crude futures expiring in July were up about 2.21%, trading at around $111.67 a barrel, while WTI crude futures expiring in June were 2.83% higher, at $108.40 a barrel at the time of writing.</p><p>Meanwhile, treasury yields on the benchmark 10-year were at 4.629%, staying elevated after hotter-than-expected U.S. inflation data.</p><p>Economist Steve Hanke noted that the G7 government bond yields, sovereign debt issued by a group of seven countries, including the United States, have surged to their highest levels in more than 20 years.</p><p>“Rising oil prices driven by the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, coupled with massive fiscal deficits, are sending yields higher. The bond vigilantes are riding again,” he <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/steve_hanke/status/2056125039884349577">said</a> in a post on X.
