Silver prices continued to rise as demand for the precious metal outpaced its supply, while increasing hopes of an interest rate cut from the Federal Reserve have boosted investor sentiment for precious metals.At the time of writing, silver futures maturing in December were up nearly 2%, while gold futures for the same month were up 0.9%.“The previous significant undervaluation of Silver relative to Gold is likely to have attracted investors to the Silver market, which, based on forecasts by the Silver Institute and Metals Focus, is expected to be undersupplied for the fifth consecutive year,” said Commerzbank in a recent note, according to a report by&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.fxstreet.com/news/silver-price-rises-to-14-year-high-commerzbank-202509021138">FXStreet</a>.Spot silver prices were down 1.19% at the time of writing. Analysts at the CME Group underscored in a recent&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cmegroup.com/openmarkets/metals/2025/Why-Are-Silver-and-Platinum-Outperforming-as-Portfolio-Diversifiers-to-Gold.html">note</a> that this “tightness” in the market has boosted silver prices to levels not seen in over a decade.Ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC), the CME FedWatch&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a> points to 89.8% probability of the Fed cutting interest rates by 25 basis points.Meanwhile, U.S. equities declined in Tuesday’s opening trade. Silver Price Today: Here’s Why The Commodity Is Drawing Investor Attention

The U.S. gold futures also surged 1.3% to $3,561.60 per ounce.With the recent milestone, gold prices have now surged over 100 times since former U.S. President Richard Nixon abandoned the Bretton Woods system of fixed exchange rates, which had maintained a gold price of $35 per ounce.Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell cautiously hinted at a potential rate cut at the central bank’s annual symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, last month, which has aided the bullion eke out gains in each of the previous five sessions. The non-yielding bullion tends to gain in low-interest-rate environments.Retail sentiment on Stocktwits about the <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GLD">SPDR Gold Shares ETF</a> was in the ‘extremely bullish’ territory at the time of writing.According to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool, around 89.7% of traders expect a 25-basis-point cut during the Fed’s policymakers’ meeting on Sept. 16-17. In July, core inflation in the U.S., which excludes food and energy costs, rose 2.9%, in line with Dow Jones estimates.U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly attacked Powell for not lowering interest rates sooner. He has also fired Fed Governor Lisa Cook over an alleged mortgage fraud. Cook has denied any wrongdoing, and a federal court is expected to decide her fate soon.The U.S. dollar has declined in value compared to most major currencies, as investors have been concerned about the Fed's independence, a key factor in determining the value of currencies. Silver is down 1.1% over the same period. The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SLV">iShares Silver Trust (SLV)</a> was down 1.3% Friday morning, and&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AGQ">ProShares UltraShort Silver (AGQ)</a> dipped 2.8%.&nbsp;The recent rally in&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/XAGUSD">silver prices</a> to a&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/silver-prices-hit-13-year-high-but-still-trail-gold-s-2025-rally/chkDpl4RbxI">13-year high</a> was driven by both geopolitical tensions, including the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel in the Middle East, and resilient demand from industrial sectors.Unlike gold, which is primarily used as a store of value, most of the grey metal’s demand comes from manufacturers.&nbsp;Industrial demand, especially from electronics, cutlery, and solar panel production, has remained steady, said Michael Widmer, Bank of America’s head of metals research, as&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.wsj.com/finance/commodities-futures/silver-prices-surge-8afe2e4b">told</a> to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).The iShares Silver Trust, a popular ETF among retail investors that holds physical silver, has added nearly 11 million ounces to its reserves this year to meet rising demand, according to fund documents cited by the publication.&nbsp;However, JPMorgan’s head of metals research, Greg Shearer, warned that demand from solar manufacturers, particularly in China, may have been pulled forward due to anticipated trade restrictions and shifting U.S. energy policy under President Donald Trump.
