Bitcoin is the world's first decentralized cryptocurrency, created in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. It enables peer-to-peer electronic cash transactions without intermediaries like banks or governments, operating on a blockchain secured by Proof of Work mining and the SHA-256 cryptographic algorithm.   With a fixed supply cap of 21 million coins and programmatic halvings every four years that reduce miner rewards, Bitcoin is designed as a deflationary digital asset often called "digital gold." Its value stems from solving the double-spending problem without trusted intermediaries, creating the first truly scarce digital asset with censorship resistance and permissionless access that no government, corporation, or individual can control.  Bitcoin operates as a decentralized peer-to-peer network where transactions are recorded on a public ledger called the blockchain, distributed across thousands of computers globally. Transactions are grouped into blocks added approximately every 10 minutes through mining, where specialized computers compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles.   Bitcoin has achieved mainstream adoption through multiple vectors. The January 2024 SEC approval of 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs opened Bitcoin investment to traditional finance participants, and corporations like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) are using Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset to protect against currency debasement, offering MSTR holders amplified exposure to Bitcoin.   The Bitcoin ecosystem continues to evolve with innovations like Ordinals, which emerged in January 2023 to enable NFT-like functionality directly on Bitcoin, and BRC-20 tokens, an experimental standard for creating fungible tokens using Ordinal inscriptions. BTCFi (Bitcoin Finance) represents emerging financial applications extending beyond Bitcoin's traditional role, with protocols like Babylon allowing Bitcoin holders to stake BTC to secure Proof of Stake chains.

Bitcoin is a major talking point as the community debates its unexpected resilience around the $69,000 level despite wider market and geopolitical uncertainty, while eagerly anticipating the impact of former President Trump's vocal push for crucial crypto legislation like the CLARITY Act.

Ethereum is a global, open-source platform for decentralized applications. In other words, it is a decentralized blockchain platform that enables developers to build and deploy smart contracts and applications without central authority control. Unlike Bitcoin, which primarily functions as digital currency, Ethereum operates as a programmable global computer where developers can create any type of decentralized service.   The platform hosts over $14 billion in DeFi applications with hundreds of thousands of active users across financial protocols, NFT marketplaces, and gaming platforms. Its transition to Proof of Stake in September 2022 reduced energy consumption by over 99%, addressing environmental concerns while strengthening network security.  The network operates through thousands of independent validator nodes that process transactions and execute smart contracts on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts.  Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

Ethereum is trending due to widespread community discussion around its resilience as a digital asset during ongoing geopolitical uncertainty and growing anticipation for clear crypto regulation via the Clarity Act, which many believe will unlock significant institutional adoption despite traditional banking resistance.

Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency created by Charlie Lee. It was created based on the Bitcoin protocol but differs in terms of the hashing algorithm used. Litecoin uses the memory intensive Scrypt proof of work mining algorithm. Scrypt allows consumer-grade hardware such as GPU to mine those coins.  Why Litecoin? Litecoin is a cryptocurrency that has evolved from Bitcoin after its own popularity in the industry, this alternative, or ‘altcoin’ has emerged to allow investors to diversify their digital currency package, according to Investopedia. Litecoin is one of the most prominent altcoins and was created by former Google employee and Director of Engineering at Coinbase, Charlie Lee. Litecoin was the first to alter Bitcoin and the most significant difference is that it takes 2.5 minutes for Litecoin to generate a block, or transaction, in comparison to Bitcoin's 10 minutes.  ‘While this matters little to traders, miners who use hardware to run Bitcoin's network cannot switch over to Litecoin. This keeps bigger mining conglomerates away from Litecoin because they cannot easily optimize their profits by swapping to another coin, contributing to a more decentralized experience. Litecoin also has bigger blocks, and more coins in circulation, making it more affordable and swift when transacting,’ Investopedia explained.  As explained above, Litecoin can transact a lot faster than Bitcoin, but there are also a number of other characteristics that investors need to know before trading. Litecoin can handle higher volumes of transactions because of the capability of transacting faster and if Bitcoin attempted to transact on the scale of its altcoin, a code update would be needed. However, Litecoin’s blocks would be larger, but with more ‘orphaned blocks'. The faster block time of litecoin reduces the risk of double spending attacks - this is theoretical in the case of both networks having the same hashing power.  Litecoin Technical Details: The transaction confirmation time taken for Litecoin is about 2.5 minutes on average (as compared to Bitcoin's 10 minutes). The Litecoin network is scheduled to cap at 84 million currency units.   Litecoin has inspired many other popular alternative currencies (eg. Dogecoin) because of its Scrypt hashing algorithm in order to prevent ASIC miners from mining those coins. However it is said that by the end of this year, Scrypt ASIC will enter the mass market.

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Aardvark was studying the efficacy and safety of ARD-101 as a treatment for hyperphagia in patients with Prader-Willi Syndrome in the trial.</li><li>In September, Acadia Pharmaceuticals scrapped development of intranasal Carbetocin after it failed to meet the key goals in a late-stage PWS trial.</li><li>Soleno Therapeutics’ VYKAT XR is the first approved treatment specifically for hyperphagia in PWS patients.</li></ul><p>Shares of Aardvark Therapeutics (AARD) dived 53% after hours on Friday after the company announced that it is voluntarily pausing its late-stage trial in Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS).</p><p>The company was studying the efficacy and safety of ARD-101 as a treatment for hyperphagia in patients with Prader-Willi Syndrome in the trial. Prader-Willi syndrome is a rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorder caused by an abnormality in the gene expression on chromosome 15, estimated to occur in one in every 15,000 live births. The disorder is defined by hyperphagia, an intense, persistent sensation of hunger, which could be life-threatening.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Why Is Aardvark Pausing Trial?</h2><p>The company <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://ir.aardvarktherapeutics.com/news-releases/news-release-details/aardvark-therapeutics-announces-voluntary-pause-phase-3-hero">said</a> that the decision was based on certain cardiac observations made during routine safety monitoring in a healthy volunteer study. The company is reviewing the data to determine next steps, it said, while adding that it has also paused enrollment and dosing in the trial as it completes its evaluation.</p><p>The firm also added that it no longer expects data from the trail in the third quarter of 2026.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Other Names To Quit PWS Drug Development</h2><p>In September, Acadia Pharmaceuticals <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/acadia-pharmaceuticals-investigational-drug-for-rare-genetic-disorder-fails-in-late-stage-study/chD1Gf0R33B">scrapped</a> development of intranasal Carbetocin after it failed to meet the key goals in a late-stage PWS trial.</p><p>The company then said that intranasal Carbetocin did not demonstrate a statistically significant improvement over placebo to week 12 on the Hyperphagia Questionnaire for Clinical Trials and also announced its intent to stop investigating the drug further.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Soleno’s Approved Drug</h2><p>Soleno Therapeutics, meanwhile, received FDA approval of VYKAT XR in early 2025, making it the first approved treatment specifically for hyperphagia in PWS patients.</p><p>However, in August, Scorpion Capital revealed a short position against Soleno stock, alleging several risks associated with Vykat XR, including high risk of pre-diabetes/diabetes, pulmonary edema, and congestive heart failure. Scorpion Capital also stated that it intends to submit an emergency Citizen Petition shortly, requesting that the FDA urge Soleno to conduct a voluntary recall of Vykat XR from the market.</p><p>Weeks later, in September, the company <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/soleno-therapeutics-stock-tanks-after-patient-treated-with-drug-dies/chwklo0RdHG">stated</a> in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it is aware of a serious adverse event reported in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) involving a deceased patient.
